Stephanie Martin, Composer-In-Residence

Stephanie Martin is a conductor, performer, composer, church musician and educator who has contributed to Toronto's music scene for 25 years. She is particularly active as a choral conductor but also regularly conducts works with full orchestra.

The recipient of the Lilian Forsythe Award for excellence in church music and the Leslie Bell Prize for choral conducting, Professor Martin has served as artistic director and conductor of Toronto’s 85-voice oratorio choir, Pax Christi Chorale, since 1996. She was director of music for Toronto’s Calvin Presbyterian Church and its award-winning choir for 11 years before taking up the post of music director for the historic Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in 2007.

Stephanie Martin has toured Eastern Europe and China as assistant conductor to Howard Dyck with Consort Caritatis. She was harpsichordist with the Arbor Oak Trio for 15 years, and currently performs with the Renaissance wind trio Recordare. She is a frequent guest continuo player with the Baroque ensemble I Furiosi and has appeared and recorded with many other ensembles, including the Toronto Consort and Aradia. She can be heard on several Naxos, Marquis and self-produced recordings, playing harpsichord and baroque chamber organ. She is also a published composer and arranger.

Professor Martin joined the faculty in York's Music Department in 2004
